Perth Zoo Fun Day
Thanks to the generous bidders at the 2013 Royal Queensbury Championship boxing event, ToyBox International has been able to fund amongst other grants, a line up of Fun Days for Camp Quality children living with cancer.
The Perth Zoo was invaded with Camp Quality kids on Saturday 3rd May for the annual Camp Quality Mini Camp. 32 children (aged 4-6 years old), along with 33 Camp Quality Companion volunteers, 3 Camp Quality staff and one medical volunteer arrived at the Zoo dressed up in animal costumes.
The purpose of Mini Camp is to engage the kids who are attending one of our events for the first time without their parents building trust in our staff as well as providing respite for parents and a fun day out for KIDS ONLY!
The day kicked off with an icebreaker Treasure Hunt outside the zoo gates which found the children searching for toy animals. Parents were then fare-welled and the Camp Quality team and kids entered the zoo for a morning of exploring, learning and fun.
As lunch time approached the group met up for a picnic. The children were each given a cloth goodie bag to decorate that contained coloring-in books and pens to keep everyone busy until lunch packs arrived. After lunch the group celebrated Faye’s seventh birthday with a ‘Happy Birthday’ sing-along and cake.
The afternoon was highlighted with a visit from the Perth Zoo Snake Handler. He gave a talk about snakes, their habitat and wellbeing. The kids were then able to pat the snake. To wrap-up the day the kids had a final wonder around the zoo with their companions before meeting up with their parents and heading home.
A huge thankyou to Josh and Emma Coffey from Freelife Homes for their generous donation to ToyBox International which made this day possible.
