Pirate Fun Day

Thanks to the generous bidders at the 2013 Royal Queensbury Championship boxing event, ToyBox International has been able to fund amongst other grants, a line up of Fun Days for Camp Quality children living with cancer and their families.

The Mandurah Offshore sailing Club was invaded with families on Sunday February 9th for the annual Mandurah Crabbing Fun Day! It was an action packed day of fishing, crabbing, games and valuable family time.

Upon arrival each family was assigned to a boat or 'pirate ship' with a driver from the Sailing Club. They then spent three hours out on the water fishing, cruising the canals and having one big water fight with the other pirate ships. The families returned to a delicious BBQ lunch and to stick with the theme of the day, crab was even on the menu. After lunch everyone grabbed a rod and competed in a fishing competition. Each time a fish was caught it was weighed and listed on the competition score board. Trophies were given out for the biggest Brim and Blowfish and every child was rewarded with a goody bag including a children's fishing rod, fishing magazine and lollies.

The afternoon was highlighted with a visit from two mermaids who swam around the foreshore with their glittering tails, entertaining kids doing flips and tricks just like a dolphin. To finish the day a treasure hunt was organised and all of the kids went searching for gold coins hidden on the shore. Coins could be cashed in for a prize or taken home for safe keeping. "What a fantastic day of fun, being out on the water, teaching the kids new skills. Seeing the smiles on their aces makes it all so worthwhile." Said camp leader, Mel Woollard. A huge thankyou to Adam DiPlacido from Adco Electrics for his generous donation to ToyBox International which made this day possible.
